Happy MAR10 day!
Everything else has its own holiday, and Mario surely deserves his own too. This year Nintendo is celebrating with a gargantuan community challenge. They're tasking everyone to collectively run 1 MILLION laps in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe between 3/7 and 3/17. And while it might feel like I've run this amount myself over the course of my life time, it's a pretty big challenge.
Some quick math.
3 laps in one race for 12 players is 36 laps.
Which adds up to under 28,000 races filled with 12 human racers to achieve 1 million.
Or rather 333,333 individual participants completing one race.
Still, I wouldn't be surprised if by the time this blog has been posted it's been done, or at least close to it.
Simply participating will get you 310 Nintendo Platinum Points if the community succeeds. These points are for actual physical goods, ranging from tote bags to, coasters, hats, shirts, key chains... you get the idea (I was kind of hoping for a Mario branded plunger, honestly). With a handful of items available for under 300.
This game still keeps us coming back for more, even after... wait... It originally released 11 YEARS AGO.. Id have to assume this is part of a bigger marketing push to reignite everyone's excitement for the Switch 2 and the new Mario Kart, presumably also launching this year, as if it needed any more excitement.
I know I'm gonna hop on for a few races, or 20, to celebrate MAR10 day. How are you celebrating?
